Cheerful Surprises

I have been missing Christine over at A Simple Quilter.
She posted a blog update and I was so pleased to hear from her that I commented right away!  I am amazed at her knitting skills and I just had to comment on the dish towels she is making right now.
She asked me for my mailing address....and a few days later this arrived!

She sent me one of her very yummy dish towels!

Tucked inside was another surprise....
a delicious bar of Green Apple Pear soap!

Her talents amaze me!  She knows I am a sock-knitting wannabe....and I will be one of these days....hopefully sooner than later.  She even sent me a little sock ornament pattern....which I am excited to work on.
Thank you Christine....your gifts have blessed me!

Replacing Doors

My oldest son was home for the weekend.
He took everything from my old computer and put it on an external hard drive.
My 'before and after' fireplace door photos were on that computer.
I won't be looking for those pictures for a while, so I will just share a photo of one of the rooms with the fireplace doors... and maybe if you enlarge it you might be able to see the detail. The old doors were not nice.
It is a double sided fireplace....our formal dining room is on the other side.

When we moved in, 9 years ago, red walls were popular.
It looked really good with our previous furniture.
I am thinking it might be time to paint this wall a different color.

The rest of the room has built in bookshelves, so it really isn't a bad painting project.
I wish I actually enjoyed painting.

(Yes, that is an empty frame hanging above the fireplace....I haven't found anything to put in it yet).

A Fun Find

I have had my eyes open for one of these coffee pots for a long time.
Goodwill has been very good to me.
I never imagined I would find it in my favorite vintage Corelle pattern.
(And only have to pay $4.99).
It sure makes a great cup of coffee!
(8 cups to be exact)

Changes

Grampie and his best 'helper'....yes...I know he isn't wearing any pants....he needed something clean to put on when he was done 'working'.
I am baffled by my photo uploading problems.  I can see all of my photos in my photo files, until I go to Blogger and try to upload them....then the most recent photos are missing.
I thought I would show you my new fireplace doors this week.....and I have been trying....and I will keep on trying....but for now....I will just pull out a few random photos that Blogger has actually loaded.

We recently had many trees removed from our property.  We had two monster trees growing too close to our house and they were causing stress on our roof.  We had a few trees that were almost dead....they needed to go.  But then we had a bunch of trees that we chose to remove so we could plant some garden boxes - and the sun would actually reach them.
I took pictures of my garden boxes.
Maybe some day Blogger will let me post them.

I was so pleased that our lilacs finally bloomed this year.  We planted them quite a few years ago and each year there have only been leaves.

We are making major changes in our backyard this summer....well...at least we will be if this rain ever lets up!

Our second son is moving out.
He has a 6 month apartment lease in CO with his friend.
The mountains are calling.
I will miss him.

Empty Can Be Good Or Bad

An empty freezer can be a good thing.
When you really need one....and you finally get it.
When it is stocked full of meat....and it feeds your family for a long time.
When it really needs a good cleaning....and you finally do it.

An empty freezer can be a bad thing.
When it is stocked full of meat....and the door gets left open.
(When you are away from home for a weekend)
When you have to start over filling it up.
(After throwing away hundreds of dollars)
When it needs cleaning because it is full of nastiness.
(And you end up with the job)

BAD
REALLY BAD

So Sweet!

I found this sweet (unused) dress at the Goodwill this week.
Who doesn't keep such a treasure??!!!
I want to say, "Shame on you!" to the person who donated it....they obviously do not know the hours that went into crocheting it.
If I could, I would let the maker of the dress know this....
I have the perfect little sweetheart to pass it on to....and her mommy will adore it!

The sun was shining through it in the first photo...it actually is bright pink.
I would guess it to be a size 3T or 4T.
I really wanted to try it on Friendie today....but I didn't.  :)

You will find fresh Home Made cookies in my kitchen....

And you will find Fresh Brewed Coffee every morning....

Issues

I have been having photo uploading issues....hopefully blogger gets the bugs worked out soon.
We have had a lot of rain....at least I didn't have to worry about watering the garden while we were away.
Tomorrow, after 10 days without a dryer, the new set is scheduled to arrive.  Because of the rain, I am rather behind....I sure hope the delivery truck comes on time!
