Lisa and I enjoy quilting together, and our husbands are great friends and enjoy training for triathlons together.
Our first day of travel took us to Wausau, WI. We made many stops along the way.....traveling with physicians you have to stretch your legs every two hours (to prevent blood clots).....I think it was an excuse for one of them to refill their Diet Coke supply.
Back when I first started blogging, Colleen was blogging about her recent trip to Door County. She stayed at the Bay Shore Inn and was so impressed with the facility. Later that day I get a text from my husband wondering if I had ever heard of a nice place to stay in Door County.....so.....I mentioned Colleen to him.....he said "A quilter would never lead you astray." Next thing I know, he has our suite booked!!!
Colleen was our hero when we arrived and found out just how nice everything was!
This was our view...
Now..... we live on a lake....and we always have a view of the water....but the smell of the breeze off of Green Bay seemed much more relaxing....oh wait....maybe that is because I didn't have to get back inside to take care of any housework!!!!
I got to collect a few little treasures for Friendie.
The real reason for our trip was the Door County Triathlon.
The white caps in Green Bay kicked their butts, but over all, the guys were pleased with their results. Not to boast (too much), but my husband took 11th in his age group. Not bad for a 46 year old Grampie!
We ate out way too much, but had some interesting eats.
After attending an Amish Quilt Show in Sister Bay, we ate at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant where the goats graze on the grass roof....but goats don't like the rain, so they were no where in sight when we arrived.
The guys were feeling like an adventure, so they ordered an appetizer of pickled herring. Now Lisa and I grew up enjoying herring at holidays, so we thought it was great.....the guys said they liked it...but we think they may have been lying.
I was so disappointed we didn't plan our travel so I could stop in at Primitive Gatherings. The store isn't open on Sundays, so I had to wait and purchase one of their books the following day at The Quilt Yard.
Have you heard of Betty Cotton and her Cotton Theory method? Betty was traveling when we stopped in the shop, but we were amazed at her quilts and Lisa is excited to try it out for herself.
I wanted to show you the retreat center located in the middle of tiny little Osseo, WI.
One last photo to share (from my husband's camera).
Our buddy, Wade, has a self imposed ban on all desserts until he can finish a half marathon in a certain time frame (he runs one every month or so). Well, he missed the last one by 9 seconds. He is a stubborn young man....and will make his next attempt on August 1 in Chicago.
In this photo Lisa and I are enjoying some Cold Stone Creamery goodness...and Wade gets flat bread for dessert....what kind of person does that to themself????
Have a great week! I have relatives coming for the next 6 days, so I won't be back in my sewing room for a while yet....but I promise I will complete some of my projects soon!!!
For Mother's Day I received a gift card and a note good for "labor" on a gardening project from my family.
I was pretty excited about building a container garden in the back yard.
The nice weather turned bad....our building project got under way (more on that later)....and I found out I would need to have surgery.
I mentioned to my husband that maybe I would use the gift card for some paint for the kitchen and the small gathering area off the kitchen.
I planned on painting before I left for the hospital.
I had no energy.....it didn't happen.
It was all I could do to decide on the color.....Sherwin William's Bee's Wax.
While I was hanging out in the hospital for 4 1/2 days, my husband and family were painting my rooms!!!!
What a cheerful change.....so much fun to come home to!!!
The picture I just took doesn't show the true buttery yellow color, but believe me....it is lovely!
I have been on restrictions, so I haven't even had the opportunity to put the kitchen back in order yet. It will be fun to do a little re-arranging when we return from our little mini vacation. It has been a rough 2 weeks....now I am ready for a little fun!
