Batter Bowl Gift

I was thrilled to get a "replacement" Fire King Jadite Batter Bowl as a birthday gift from my Mom.
While my Mom is living in Florida (during the winter months) she and her girlfriends go to yard sales every Saturday.
This was one of those hidden treasures....
she paid $1 for it.
Do you remember what happened to my old bowl?
You can read about it here.
I need to make something yummy and try it out....but I think I will hold off until the flu is out of our house.

A Thorn In My Flesh

It all began about six years ago......
pathetic....
I took a class at retreat....
I was the only one who signed up......
now I know why....
that darn "scant" 1/4 inch seam....
I tucked it away.....
for three more years....
pulled it out two more times.....
still no fun....
put it away until a few weeks ago...
determined to finish it and get it quilted.

I thought Friendie would help me show you the finished quilt....
but he was more interested in playing with sticks.
It was a pattern that was created right after Tri Rec tools came out.
I finished sewing the binding today.....
I am so glad it is finally done!

Thank you to everyone who left Birthday Greetings and kind comments.
I am sure Grammie will have another give-a-way one of these days.  :)

My New York Fame

If you have been following my blog, you know by now I find some enjoyment in thrifting at our Goodwill store......some of you may even think I am a little obsessed....I won't hold that against you.  :)
I have been pretty excited at times....and of course I HAD to share my excitment with you.
Well, today I received an email from the Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and and Northern New Jersey, Inc.
Somehow they have found my little blog and chose my post on Goodwill Treasures to feature on their blog this week!

This is the email I received this afternoon:

Hi Sheila,
We loved your recent post about the 15 sets of knitting needles - what a great find!
Every week, we promote 3 other blogs on our GoodwillNyNj blog. This week (today) we included yours. You can see it here: http://goodwillnynj.wordpress.com/2010/04/09/style-style-everywhere-8/ - please feel free to share that with anyone and everyone.
While we know we're not your local Goodwill, we still so appreciate all the support you showed the store online. Thank you so much from all of us - you helped get the word out about what we do and why, and every little bit makes a difference.
If you're so inclined, we'd love to have you as a fan on Facebook and/or a follower on Twitter - we post a lot of style and craft info that goes far beyond our state boundaries and would love to have someone like you share your thoughts with us via comments and tweets. If you'd like those links, they're right at the bottom of this email.

Thanks again!
Best,

Cait Weiss

Give-A-Way Reminder

This morning Friendie was "reading" my latest quilting magazines.  He started saying "cheese".....my reply..."These are quilts, blankies....and pictures of people, not cheese."  Once again he exclaimed, "Cheese"!
Grammie obviously was NOT giving him the proper attention.....because yes, he DID find cheese in my McCall's Quilting Magazine.
Leave it to the little cheese lover to notice one of his very favorite foods.  :)

I will be drawing a random winner for my Redwork Give-A-Way on Sunday.....after church.  If you would like to enter the drawing, just leave your comment along with the others in the Redwork post below.
Now to get that little "cheese lover" down for a nap.......

Goodwill Treasures

Today I stopped in at the Goodwill store.
My mission was to find a "little old lady" dress for my niece to wear in her upcoming play.....no luck in that area......
but....
I found something else that got me pretty excited....
can you guess what it is?

I found a red velvet bag with some knitting needles sticking out.
The bag was securely tied up.
When I got home and opened it up...

I found 15 pairs of knitting needles in assorted sizes.
All for $3.99.
Have I mentioned how much I love the Goodwill!

Redwork Give-A-Way

Needlework magazines and transfer patterns, that proliferated around the turn of the century, produced easy-to-follow outline designs that quickly became popular.  Perfect projects for the novice, these patterns began as line drawings and were traditionally worked in red cotton floss and referred to as "redwork".  The advantage of collecting redwork, be it new or antique, is that all pieces invaribly compliment each other.

I am offering this sweet pattern from Lakadaisies titled
Darn'n.

Now friends, I am not giving away the finished product, but I am giving you the opportunity to create your own special heirloom or gift.
If you have never done any needlework, don't worry....you only need to use a simple backstitch to create this adorable little girl.
I am including all the supplies you will need.  Including enough Moda fabric and floss to finish two projects (just incase you want to make one for yourself and one for a friend).
There will also be an added surprise included for the name randomly drawn.  If I show you what it is, it wouldn't be a surprise.  :)
Tuesday is the day I turn another year older.....and I am now only 4 blog posts away from my 100th post.....so.....
from now until I post the 100th post (which will be this week)......if you would like to be included in the drawing.....
just leave a comment.....and tell me if you are Older than 46 or Younger.....just for the fun of it!  :)

April Fools

Today is April Fool's Day.
There have been days in this past year that I was wishing it was just "April Fools".....

Yes...that is a RAT....her name is Bean.....I try to forget about that one....but the other two fall under the "unconditional love" category.  :)
