Sweet Treats For A Sewing Slacker

My husband had a class in Duluth, MN a couple weeks ago. Because we have family in the area, my oldest daughter and her husband and baby decided to go along. I opted to stay at home and work on some projects.....thinking I would get lots of sewing time....I was wrong once again....I spent my whole time cleaning! Believe me when I tell you I am not a "neat freak" (although my husband is).....but those closets got the best of me and I didn't get any sewing done. I shampooed my carpets and then I had to re-arrange the furniture....you know how that goes. My 3 days flew by.....well.... I have 3 more days to myself coming up at the end of this week.....we will see if I have learned anything and get to my sewing pile this time around. :)
One of my favorite sweets.

Deprived

This goodie dome sits on my kitchen counter. Because a bunch of "sweet tooths" come and go, I try to always have something fresh baked available. Well....it has been pretty sad around here these past couple weeks. All the baking I get done is either needed for some gathering or immediately devoured as soon as it cools. So my poor family has had to resort to these terribly unhealthy (but tasty) treats. They are so deprived.

Baskets

When I lived in North Dakota I had a good friend who is a basket weaver. She taught me to weave baskets, but I was never as skilled as she is. I made some baskets for myself, but if I wanted one to give for a gift, I bought one of hers. :) She made me this beautiful quilt basket as a going away gift when I moved. I love it. She knew I adored her sweet blueberry baskets....she hand painted each berry. The smaller basket is a well used tote....it went with me everywhere for many years.
I made this wool drying basket. It sits by my spinning wheel....which I really need to learn to use. :)

This sweet little basket holds tea bags in my kitchen. I made one the same size that I keep make-up in.....of course mine doesn't have hand-painted blueberries on it though.

This pie basket gets many compliments when I take it to pot-lucks and gatherings....notice the blueberries.... I didn't make this one either. :) We used The Basket Book for many of our basket patterns. My friend has moved to Montana so I am not sure if she still has her basket business. I have not made a basket in 8 years.....I am too busy quilting. :)

Monday's Magazine Winner

Thank you to each of you who stopped by. I will be visiting each of your blogs when I have some leisurely minutes later in the week.
I had to wait for Emily to wake up this morning to have my winner picked. She is 14.....she likes to stay up late and sleep in late (just like the rest of my kids when they were teenagers).
Milah was the winner of Magazine Monday. I will be having more random give-a-ways coming up....so stay tuned. :)

Magazine Monday

In an effort to "weed" through my sewing room.....and to make an effort to be less of a "pack rat", I am offering this American Patchwork & Quilting magazine to one of my blog readers. It is the October 2009 edition. (Sorry about the flash glare). I will offer it while it is still "Monday". If more than one person leaves me a comment that they would enjoy reading this magazine, I will pick a name from a hat. I guess you would call this a "one day give-a-way". I will be mailing it Media Mail, so it may take a couple extra days to arrive. I have decided if nothing jumps out at me when I read my subscription magazines for the third time, I will not be "hording" them. You will actually be doing me a favor! :)
